HISPANIC
AMERICA
PHOENIX (By Jon Garrido, The Jon
Garrido News Network) May 8, 2009
—
The Jon Garrido News Network which
includes
Hispanic News will begin hosting
Hispanic America to discuss Hispanic
issues including immigration reform. The
program will air November 1. The program will
originate in Phoenix but will be
broadcasted around the world.
Hispanic America will be a
comprehensive inventory of Hispanic
programming to provide a forum for every
segment of Hispanic news
—issues,
interests,
advocacy and information.
Hispanic America will be the next
phase of The Jon Garrido News Network
by taking
Hispanic News
the number 1 ranked Hispanic Internet
website at Google, Yahoo and Bing and other
Jon Garrido websites to a higher level
to include a radio and Internet
television format.
Issues
will include racial profiling by police
officers which is a major issue across the
United States. One of the key
issues for Hispanic America will
be to advocate passage of
a new Federal law as part of
Immigration Reform charging police officers who practice racial
profiling with a
felony to remove them as a police
officer. Police officers found guilty
of a felony conviction loose their
police certification and can no
longer serve as police officers.
This is a national process used by
all states.
Congress should enact
The Immigration Reform Act of 2009
to include effectively prohibiting racial
profiling, such as the End Racial
Profiling Act (ERPA), which was
introduced in the House of
Representatives in 2007.
The Civil Rights Division of the Justice
Department should strengthen its
"pattern and practice" law enforcement
misconduct docket by focusing on local
law enforcement agencies that lack
strong prohibitions against racial
profiling and by bringing more lawsuits.
The Obama administration should issue an
executive order prohibiting racial
profiling by federal officers and
banning law enforcement practices,
including those by U.S. Immigration and
Customs Enforcement (ICE)
and in particular 287(g) program local
police agencies (such as Sheriff Joe
Arpaio) that target
Hispanics based
on race and ethnicity.
Other broadcasts being
planned include: Health care or
rather the lack of health care for
Hispanics, police agencies
impounding undocumented owned
vehicles without return,
confiscation of personal money by police
officers and never returned or
reported as part of police
procedures, detainment
at
ICE detention centers violating
civil rights not practicing habeas corpus
and transfer of
undocumented from one ICE detention
center to another often to other
states
without regard to family
notification.
If you would like to serve on
an advisory committee to prepare
questions, identify issues that have
an adverse or positive impact on Hispanic
communities across America and be
interviewed, please contact me:
