Hispanic News Called
for former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to Resign for
Attempts to Manipulate the Outcome of the 2006
Congressional Elections
PHOENIX (By Jon Garrido, The Jon Garrido News Network )
March 10, 2009
On March 9, 2007, Jon Garrido of
Hispanic News wrote, "The last straw was the firing of eight U.S. Attorneys, one of who is
Hispanic, to manipulate the outcome of the 2006 congressional elections. No
graver assault on the U.S. Constitution can take place enabling a democracy to
evolve into a dictatorship by stuffing ballot boxes to win elections.
The stakes in the 2006 elections were at the highest level determining the
direction of the United States. Had Attorney General Gonzales been successful in
directing the U.S. Attorneys prosecute the Democrats in eight states
manipulating election outcomes, the congress may still be in the hands of
Republicans enabling the Bush Administration to "stay the course" in Iraq and
further diminish the Civil Rights of all Americans.
Gonzales tried to manipulate the outcome of the
2006 congressional elections to enable the continuation of the Republican
majority in the Congress to support the further demise by George Bush of the
well being of the United States leading to continuation of the Iraq war and
plundering the financial resources of the United States to finance Bush and
Cheney's pursuit
of the arrogance of power so adeptly exemplified in the Libby trial.
Gonzales is
particularly singled out and will go down in history as "ballot box stuffer
Gonzales," the attorney General who used the Justice Department to justify
plundering the Civil Rights of Americans and attempting to manipulate the
outcome of congressional elections.
Gonzales is
Hispanic. Being Hispanic no longer suffices. Hispanic is more than just
skin color. Hispanic
values are part of the Kingdom of Conscience that determines the moral compass
of everyone in the United States of America.
Gonzales lost
his moral compass of helping all Hispanics Democrat or Republican. Instead
Gonzales chose to be the
point man for Bush and Cheney to represent the greed of corporate America at the
expense of middle America.
Gonzales is American Hispanics' greatest
disappointment.
Gonzales May Face Obstruction
Charges in U.S. Attorney Probe
On February 8, 2009, Jason
Leopold, Atlantic Free Press wrote, "A special prosecutor appointed to
investigate the firings of nine federal
prosecutors in 2006 has built a strong
case against Alberto Gonzales that may
result in obstruction of justice charges
against the former Attorney General
related to the role he played in the
U.S. Attorney firings, according to
attorneys directly involved in the probe
and la wyers defending former Bush
administration officials whose clients
have met with the special counsel.
According to legal sources, over the
past several weeks Gonzales's former
chief of staff, Kyle Sampson
provided damaging information to Special
Prosecutor Nora Dannehy, an Assistant
U.S. Attorney from Connecticut, about
Gonzales.
Sampson told
the special prosecutor Gonzales was
far more engaged in the attorney firings
than he had previously disclosed to Dannehy, in Congressional testimony and
in interviews with Justice Department
watchdogs.
Sampson is also facing obstruction of
justice charges and provided detailed
information about Gonzales's role in the
firings in hopes of staving off the
possibility of criminal charges he may
face for his role in the dismissals.
The legal
standard for an obstruction of justice,
conspiracy, and perjury charges is
specific intent.
With that in mind, the legal sources
added although Dannehy has
collected voluminous evidence over the
past four months that would appear to
suggest Gonzales and other Bush
administration officials may have
committed crimes related to the attorney
firings
including perjury and conspiracy.
Sampson
provided Dannehy with an important piece
of evidence that bolstered her case
against Gonzales: the former Attorney
General was aware of and helped create a
list of federal prosecutors to fire."
Special Prosecutor Inching Closer
to Gonzales
Meanwhile, as reported by The Public
Record, Dannehy is said to
be collecting evidence that suggests
Gonzales may face obstruction of
justice, perjury and conspiracy
charges over the federal prosecutor
firings.
Legal sources knowledgeable about
the grand jury probe said Kyle
Sampson, Gonzales's former chief of
staff has provided damaging
information about his former boss to
Dannehy about Gonzales's role in the
dismissals. Sampson is said to have
told the special prosecutor
Gonzales was far more engaged in the
attorney firings than he had
previously disclosed to Dannehy, in
Congressional testimony and in
interviews with Justice Department
watchdogs.
Sampson, these sources said, may
also be facing obstruction of
justice charges and the sources
familiar with his interviews with
Dannehy said he had provided
detailed information about
Gonzaless role in the firings in
hopes of staving off the possibility
of criminal charges he may face for
his role in the dismissals. The
legal standard for an obstruction of
justice, conspiracy, and perjury
charges is specific intent.
But Sampson is said to have told
Dannehy Gonzales met regularly with
White House officials in the Office
of Political Affairs, headed by
George W. Bush's former senior
adviser Karl Rove, about the
identities of the federal
prosecutors that should be placed on
the list and subsequently fired.
As for Gonzales several legal sources said Sampson
described Gonzales as "very hands
on" with regard to the U.S. Attorney
firings. However, one snag Dannehy
has apparently hit is proving any of
the prosecutor firings were
specifically intended to thwart
public corruption cases, according
to legal sources familiar with her
probe. Carol Lam, the U.S. Attorney
for the Southern District of
California was in the midst of a
corruption investigation involving
associates of Randy Duke
Cunningham, Republican congressman
from San Diego, when she was fired.
Gonzales
resigned as Attorney General in the
summer of 2007.
